We didn’t expect to see Taylor Swift on Tinchy Stryder’s Christmas Eve Vibes rara playlist http://tinyurl.com/cjh99p8 – Saying that the Prince of Grime is full of surprises, turns out he’s also the CEO of Christmas! http://ow.ly/gkP5U

#2: Grizzly Bear – ‘Shields’

#2: Grizzly Bear - 'Shields'

THE. TENSION. IS…. palpable.

Some more seminal dream pop, highly anticipated 3rd album from Grizzly Bear.

A well earned silver medal from these alternative rock champs in the rara Christmas Countdown. Blissfully anthemic and enormous.

#3: Frank Ocean – ‘Channel Orange’

#3: Frank Ocean - 'Channel Orange'

This countdown is truly in it’s final stages! Tinkling bells, Rudolph limbering up and the elves breaking out in stress hives.

Massive pressure on our boy Frank to get this right considering the immense critical success of ‘Nostalgia Ultra’. But of course he blew it out the water.

Huge landmark on the R’n’B map, soulful and some of the most heartbreaking stuff to come from the scene in a long while.

Biggest tracks: Thinkin’ Bout You & Swim Good.

#4: Beach House – ‘Bloom’

#4: Beach House - 'Bloom'

A FIRM favourite in the rara house this year, we can now hum in unison to every single song quite confidently. We also take requests (is there such a thing as a humming choir? Would anyone want there to be?)

The dream pop duo’s second album is really a fantastic listen, a slow burner in terms of how you come to love it but by the 3rd listen you’ll be completely in love. Subtle pop sentiments, catchy as heck and romantically inclined.

Check it out here on rara and happy holidays to all o y’all

#5: Fiona Apple – ‘The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do’

#5: Fiona Apple - 'The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do'

Despite having the most unnecessarily lengthy name of almost any album released this year Fiona Apple burst back into the scene with great style with this record.

The album is emotive, multi-textured and complicated – however it is immensely rewarding. “I just want to feel everything” she declares whilst also telling us of heart break, anxiety and loss.
